Why is this important?

Texas has the 5th largest waistline in the country! Of all adult Texans, 62.4% are overweight or obese. |

30% of Texas High School students are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight |

26% of 4th grade, 19% of 8th grade, and 15% of 11th grade students in Texas are overweight |

According to the 2003 Youth Behavior Survey, 84% of Dallas high school students had not participated in sufficient moderate physical activity during the past 7 days |
Who Benefits from the Program?
All participants who partake in Get Fit Frisco! will benefit! Making healthy and smart choices includes the entire family. Benefits take the form of healthier eating habits, increased physical activity, and overall health improvement. For some, health improvement can include lowered cholesterol, lowered blood sugar levels, increased muscle tone or mass, less pounds on the scale, and increased energy. For others, accomplishing the goal of being part of Get Fit Frisco! will provide innate satisfaction.

Give community members a reason to make a healthy move and change behaviors that contribute to weight-related health issues. |

Prompt community members to call a centralized resource to find out about community programs and services that are available to help them eat less, move more and stay active for a lifetime. |

Extend the reach and impact of existing community programs and services that provide fitness, nutrition and health-based options and low or no cost to those most in need. |

Strengthen connections between corporations, schools, health care facilities, churches, civic organizations and a multitude of community programs and services. |

Encourage media outlets to join the fight against fat and carry news (as well as ads) with campaign messages. |

Propel our community toward the goal of becoming one of the fittest in the nation. |
